New Delhi: Over Rs. 3,186 crore has been paid to more than 17 lakh military veterans on account
of One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme and 100 per cent compliance is
expected by the month-end, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar today said.
"17,29,358 pensioners have benefited from OROP to the tune of Rs. 3,186 crore. Expect to ensure cent per cent compliance by May end," Mr Parrikar tweeted.
A section of veterans, who had been protesting for "complete" implementation of OROP, had recently called off their nearly a year-long protest at Jantar Mantar.
They have now decided to take the legal route to press their demand.
Mr Parrikar had in September last year announced implementation of the OROP for ex-servicemen but the veterans have been continuing with their protest demanding "complete" implementation of the scheme.

Good. All veteran associations have appreciated and expressed gratitude .
ReplyDeleteVeterans rights have been restored of legitimate rights of pensions in part ,after having been denied since 1973.it is fun not to be looked upon as benefit ,but as a restoration of Right.
Other remaining issues remain unresolved.
Pushing veter to courts by actions / inactions by the Govt to resolve annomalies is no good governance and reflection of abdication of functional responsibility of administration by MOD and governance by Govt.
Inaction by Govt ( immaterial of which political party )for so many years including delay of 2years since 2014,after so many cabinet and parliamentary resolutions.
Yes ,simple analitical fact and comment.
Pse add to ibid comment.
ReplyDeleteIt is not that sort of benefit of some kind of generocity ,but release of right which was illegitimately delayed and denied for 40 years.
If veterans are driven to courts/tribunals with so many millions of cases pending in courts ,What sort of treatment or justice ???
I did not get 1st instalment of OROP till to date.
ReplyDeletePublication of a highly relevant and fundamental view expressed as comment is awaited.
ReplyDeleteAgain ,briefly - payout of legitimate pensions to soldiers ( even others ) cannot be termed as a benefit .such expressions are not seen or heard when civil services are paid out.
Unless this mind set and approach is resolved ,the disparities ,denials ,anomalies and wide gap would keep on compounding.
This is to enable proper understanding of issues by one and all - inclusive of bureaucrats ( DESW ,PCDA ,MOD ,service hqs ),netas ,veterans ,associations and Govt.
