    1. Former Lt-Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands & Puducherry, Lt-Gen Bhopinder Singh (retd) wrote in the Tribune dated July 21, 2015: The Sword Arm does not get strengthened only by arms purchases or replacing ageing equipment only (that is also important). First and foremost is to retain the izzat (and therefore the fighting spirit) of the combatant soldier — this izzat is now contextualised to OROP and is being challenged with a “patience” suggest, after 40 years of collective indifference, the Defence Forces are not oblivious of the situation. July 26, Kargil Vijay Diwas, is a fitting date for OROP redemption and implementation. A visit by the Defence Minister to these OROP protestors would not be seen as an act of succumbing, but a large-hearted step towards acknowledging the sacrifices of these soldiers and ensuring the dignity and izzat of those who put their lives before the nation and ensure, India remains India.

    2. Please do not mind from my comments on Indian Politicians and Bureaucrats as our Main Internal Enemy is Bureaucrats and Politicians. Day by Day the benefits of Politicians and Bureaucrats are going like a Rocket and others benefits coming down in Horrible manner. After victory of Indo-Pak war in 1971 , the third Pay commission has downgraded the value of Below Officer Ranks Pensions from 70 to 50 %, is any chance to restore the same status in 7 CPC I do not know because of one of the Cruel and crooked Finance is sitting at present (Mr Arun jaitley) . Our Defence Minister and Raksha rajya Manthri(Mr Manohar Parikkar and Mr Rao Inderjit Singh) are reading the stereo type replies on One Rank One Pensions since 08 Jul 2014 to till 21 Jul 2015, if we go through there is no change in words to words , line to line, paragraphs to paragraphs ditto wording found, from these aspects we can consider that in India whatever the Bureaucrats written the same is reading by Ministers without thinking and not applying any Common sense. Actually they are be fooled in front of Public and now I feel Ashamed on them . Very Bad, What I say further . Nothing as there is no use to say anything

    3. Festival of Victory '65 is an attempt to appropriate memory of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri from the Congress. This will be the first time that India will commemorate a war so elaborately without the Veterans whose sacrifices attained victory. So far, Republic Day has been the only occasion on which the three Services come out to display their might. It would seem to be part of the BJP’s continued attempts to appropriate the memory of Congress leaders who are not part of the Nehru-Gandhi family. After Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, it now seems to be the turn of Lal Bahadur Shastri, who was the prime minister during the 1965 conflict. The sad part is that the victory celebrations will be without the Veterans who fought the battle glory but will include all the bureaucrats and politicians who fought from their Air Conditioned rooms in their HQs at New Delhi.

    4. The government is going to celebrate the 65' war victory where as it itself is facing a "Maha Sangram '2015" from the ESM. Gracious protest of handing over the medals of honour was slighted by the government in the past and driven the soldiers to streets, now they want further escalations in protest with this final war on the government, all because of not implementing the OROP Scheme defined in two simple terms. Adamancy too got its limits, patience is not an attribute of a soldier still the ESM exhibited immense patience with this government; what will be the reaction of the government if another wing of the government like the Railways, Nationalised Banks go on to war path. It will be blood bath and loss to the National exchequer. But, the invisible loss of 'morale of a soldier' is not counted as loss to the government which no accountant can count in monitory terms. If MORALE is lost, to rebuild it, it will take at least two generations to come. It is the right time for the government to wake up.

    5. It is learn t that OROP is being implemented before 15 Aug. Is it true?, but, FM
(Furti Master) is throwing the dust into eyes of all ESMs. Not believable. See till
to 15 Aug. I will never cast my vote to BJP if fails to implement OROP. " Vyapam & Lalit Modi Zindabad".

    7. Dear Mr Jaitley, tackle the devil in your ministry. The bureaucrats in your ministry are confusing you and the PM regarding the OROP and its implementation. To keep it simple and straight forward OROP was defined with two parameters by those with wisdom and it will give real time pensions to the ESM and the war widows all through their lives with a decent living standard. Acceptance of the inevitable OROP under pressure is not a gracious act to you, the PM, the BJP and the Government of the day. Playing politics with National security is a dangerous game and for the future repercussions on this count will be accounted to this Government. The previous governments played with the ESM and war widows, and after mocking the UPA Government for inaction, you too are falling in line. With the Bihar elections coming up, gala poll-bashing will soon begin from your side, have you got a face to show the Bihar electorate after denying the ESM of their due, duly promised by your party before the last General Elections? Again, a number of events are planned by your government celebrating the past victories of the Indian Armed Forces forgetting the fact that you have insulted and presently insulting the serving soldiers, the airmen, the sailors, the veterans and the war widows treating them as a second rate citizens. They were the real HEROS, but in your view they are all ZEROS. Docile, disciplined with patience they are asking for their dues, and your failure yo see the reality will cost you, your party and the Nation dearly.

    8. Defence pensions indeed amount to Rs 54,500 crore where as Rest of the Central Government pension bill rose to Rs 1,27,507 crore in FY15. There is wrong conception that Armed a Forces pension is enormous and it must be diluted while awarding OROP. In realistic terms the Armed Forces pension looks huge all because of the fact that the personnel at junior levels must be kept young and retired at an earlier age. This is the same case with other Armed Forces world-over. Pension is a retirement benefit for government employees governed by a Pension scheme where in a recurring monthly payment for life and a lump sum gratuity is given at the time of retirement. The quantum of Pension and Gratuity is determined with reference to the length of service and last pay drawn. A soldier gets lesser gratuity and last pay-drawn for a shorter service. He will be placed at a very low level on retirement at an young age in financial security ladder compared to his civilian counterpart retiring in normal course of 60 years. Thus OROP has great significance since it is a measure of socio-economic justice and brings economic security in the fall of life when physical and mental prowess tends to ebb. Unless this truth is understood clearly irrespective of monitory concerns, the Nation have to forgo an effective National security both in peace and war. Now coming to awarding OROP are we to believe that the bureaucrats are reworking on the scales of OROP keeping the 20 years service as full service for pension [20 years is the minimum years of service to be eligible for full pension]. Even then we don't understand why the PM is reluctant to come out with facts and a firm date for implementation. Any delay will not be in the interest of the Nation.

    9. The NDA govt should plan to shift MOD with its entire bureocrats to KARGIL including DM then they will come to understand the sacrifices of a soldier. A soldier is serving & protecting our motherland with dedication.

    13. Why not increase the pension as compared to other nations. India pays us only 50 % of last basic.
