DISABLED EX-SERVICE...Please publish this news also
DISABLED EX-SERVICEMAN PENSION: GOVT MAY OK 7TH PAY PANEL REPORTS
Saturday, 17 June 2017 | Pioneer News Service | New Delhi

With the objective to streamline disability pension for ex-servicemen, the Government is likely to accept the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission thereby removing anomalies and also reduce litigation. The new system will be broad based and address the concerns of the retired jawans.

The proposed implementation of this system was recommended in 2015 by a committee of experts constituted for review of service and pension matters to reduce complaints and litigations. The panel was headed by former Adjutant General Lt General Mukesh Sabharwal, Defence sources said here on Friday.

The percentage of disability is determined a medical board of the armed forces when a soldier or an officer is due to retire. The board’s recommendation is then validated by the pension office and in many cases pensioners felt aggrieved that their disability percentage was not fixed properly leading to litigation besides acrimony, officials said.

Elaborating upon this aspect, they said in the existing system, an ex-servicemen with 100 per cent disability gets an additional 30 per cent pension. Based on this principle, pension for the lower disability is calculated on a pro-rata basis. This is a major point of contention as the amount of pension varies even with a small percentage change in disability.

In an effort to overcome such anomalies, the Pay Commission had recommended broad banding of the disability in three slabs and the Government had issued a resolution on September 30, 2016 on the issue. The Government order will formalise the system now, they said. As per the new system, between ex-servicemen with 20 per cent-50 per cent disability will get 50 per cent disability pension, 50 per cent-75 per cent will get 75 per cent pension and above 75 per cent will get 100 per cent disability pension, they said.SK Nairhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00976045908624347020noreply@blogger.com
